Judy J. Mohlis, 72, of Sumner, died Monday, June 2, 2014, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 4th at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Thursday.
Judy Jo, daughter of Donald and Blanche Drewis Sievers, was born February 24, 1942, near Tripoli in rural Bremer County, Iowa. She was baptized at home on March 15, 1942, and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-Siegel on March 25, 1956. She received her education in the Tripoli Schools. On February 2, 1964, she was united in marriage with Ralph Mohlis at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-Siegel. Judy worked at the egg plant in Tripoli, Brumwell Flour Mill in Sumner, helped her husband for many years on his milk route, and was employed at the Westgate Tap in her later years. She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and worked as the church janitor for a number of years. She enjoyed fishing, bingo, and playing cards with her Westgate friends.
Judy is survived by one daughter, Carmen (Bob) Leech of Westgate; four grandchildren, Tyler (Megan) Leech of Waterloo, Cody Leech of Sumner, Chase (Nichole Fagle) Leech of Westgate, and Dylan Leech of Sumner; one great granddaughter, Grace Sara; two sisters, Carole (Erling) Lohmann of Strawberry Point and Shirley Kuker of Readlyn; three sisters-in-law, Bernice Wilharm of Sumner, Darlys Schulz of Waverly, and Marlys Goodenbour of Tripoli; many nieces and nephews and treasure ones who called her “Grandma Judy”; and special friends, Jean Leech, Patty Wolff, and Lois Fisher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph in 1999; her parents; and her twin sister, Jane Boevers in 1998.
